FAQ'S

Q: What side of the flexible flat armor goes against my body?
A:
Insert the armor with the interlocking parts on your body/facing your body. it is actually designed to have the solid part as the outer surface. The channels between the polygon “nubs” allow for more airflow to the skin, which leads to a more comfortable ride overall.

Q: What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 armor?
A:
The biggest difference is impact protection. CE Level 2 armor absorbs more impact energy than Level 1, meaning less force is transmitted to your body in a crash. Both are CE-certified, but Level 2 offers a higher level of protection.

Q:Does it harden on impact?
A:
No this protector does not harden on impact. It is not necessary to have this component. It is a muti-use protector.

Q: Does Level 2 Armor expire?
A:
Depending on the amount of riding you do, as well as your individual riding conditions, the viscoelastic foam in this protector could potentially last up to ten years. Please check your current armor to make sure that it has not expired. Many pieces out on the market now expire in 5-7 years.

Q: How do I take care of the motorcycle armor pieces?
A:
We recommend removing the armor from your garments to clean it as detergent residue, salt (including body salt) and moisture can stick to it and negatively affect the armor.

Do not wash protectors in a washing machine or dry them in a dryer.

During the off-season, we recommend storing in a temperate dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme cold and heat. Inside your home is best.  It is always a good idea to give everything a thorough cleaning before storing it away and we also recommend not storing it in a rolled or folded position as that can cause undue stress on the armor, causing it to wear out quicker.

Q: Do I need to replace this after a crash?
A:
No this is a multi use piece and you only need to inspect it.

Q: Will these fit into any gear that I already own?
A:
It depends on the pocket size of your garment. Please either measure the piece that you are removing or the pocket itself to ensure a perfect fit. Do not guess.

Q. Can I use these protectors in the cold?
A.
Yes you can. But ideally you need to warm them to your body before you use them in the cold or they could crack and this is not warrantied.

Q: I am sensitive to latex. Is your armor safe for me to wear?
A:
These are latex free.

Armor Care / Installation

Cleaning:
We recommend removing the armor from your Bohn gear from time to time to clean it as detergent residue, salt (including body salt) and moisture can stick to it and negatively affect the armor.

Armor pieces should NOT be placed in the washing machine or dryer, but may be wiped clean with a damp cloth if they become soiled.

Temperature:

We recommend storing your protectors in temperatures above 60 degrees. Extreme temperatures will not affect the effectiveness of the protector, but extreme cold in addition to stress on the protector (ie. bending of the armor when cold) can cause the pieces to crack.

A such, do not stress the protectors in extremely cold weather conditions. (For example, leaving pieces in a cold garage and then putting them on can cause armor with articulation to crack at the articulation points.)

Just use good judgment when wearing the protectors and try your best to keep them against your warm body. DO NOT use frozen protectors–bring them inside to warm up and then use.

Warranty:

Limb armor, like your helmet, has an expiration date typically 5-10 years from manufacture.

If you have Bohn armor that is 5-10 years old and is "crumbling", you need to replace it. If only one piece is crumbling, the other pieces are sure to follow. This means your armor has expired and all pieces should be replaced as they were likely manufactured at the same time.

Cracking of Level 2 armor pieces is not warrantied as this means one of two things:

  • The armor placement is incorrect on your body (see proper placement graphic below).

    OR
  • It has been subjected to cold extreme temperatures and then bent or used while frozen or cold.

Installation

  • When installing, armor can be squeezed to fit into pockets but the armor must be warmed to room temperature.
  • Armor can be trimmed as needed
  • Fabric backed armor should be inserted with the fabric facing the outside of the garment
